Base Plate Maintenance and Care

Regular Inspection

Conduct regular inspections of your base plate before each towing session and periodically throughout the year. Check for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Ensure all bolts are secure and the attachment points are free from obstructions. A visual inspection can often identify potential issues, such as cracks or loose components, before they become a problem.

Cleaning and Lubrication

Clean the base plate regularly to remove dirt, debris, and road salt. Use a mild soap and water solution for cleaning and thoroughly rinse the component. After cleaning and drying, lubricate moving parts, such as the receiver brackets, with a suitable lubricant to prevent corrosion and ensure smooth operation. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.

Storage Recommendations

When the base plate is not in use, store it in a dry, protected location to prevent rust and corrosion. If possible, store the tow bar and base plate indoors. If outdoor storage is necessary, protect the base plate from the elements with a cover. Proper storage will help to prolong the life of the base plate and ensure it is ready for use when needed.
