Weight Ratings Explained

Drop receivers have specific weight ratings that are critical for safe towing. Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) is the maximum weight of the fully loaded trailer and includes the trailer itself, all cargo, and any fluids. Tongue weight is the downward force the loaded trailer exerts on the hitch ball. For example, if a receiver has a GTW of 10,000 lbs and a tongue weight of 1,000 lbs, then you should not tow a trailer that weighs more than 10,000 lbs when fully loaded and the downward force on the hitch ball should not exceed 1,000 lbs. Exceeding these weight ratings can cause damage to your vehicle, trailer, and the receiver, and can compromise your safety. Use a scale to measure GTW and tongue weight to ensure you are within the specified limits.

Maintenance and Care

Regular maintenance extends the life and ensures the reliable performance of your drop receiver. After each use, clean the receiver to remove any dirt, debris, or salt. Inspect the receiver for any signs of damage, such as cracks, rust, or deformation. If you notice any damage, replace the receiver immediately. Lubricate moving parts with a suitable lubricant.
